Clinics and Services
Asthma Clinic
If you suffer from asthma we recommend you have an annual check up in the Asthma Clinic. Fortunately most patients with asthma have their symptoms under control, however an annual check up enables your medication to be reviewed, as well as providing you with any up to date information that may help you to prevent asthma attacks in the long term.
To book an appointment, please phone 01635 867171.
Baby/Child Immunisation Clinic

Blood Tests
A phlebotomy (blood) clinic is held at the Health Centre primarily to take blood samples and prepare them for safe delivery to the Pathology lab at Royal Berkshire Hospital or Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital.
To book an appointment, please use our Online Patient Services or phone the surgery on 01635 867171.
Cervical Cancer Screening
Cervical screening is not a test for diagnosing cervical cancer. It is a test to check the health of the cervix, which is in the lower part of the womb.
For many women the test results show that everything is fine; but for 1 in 10 women, the test show changes in the cells that can be caused by many things.
Most of these changes will not lead to cervical cancer, however, it is important to arrange a meeting with us.
Smears are done every 3 years between the ages of 25 and 49, and every 5 years between 49 and 64.
Results are sent by post, so it is important the we have up-to-date contact details.
To book an appointment, please phone 01635 867171.

If you require careful, confidential help and advice, please phone for an appointment.
In addition to the prescribing of the pill and ’emergency contraception’, we are also able to arrange for the fitting of coils and contraceptive implants.
There is also a Family Planning Clinic at West Berks Community Hospital for all patients aged 25 years or under. (Patients aged over 25 years can be seen if referred by their GP).

The cost for a medical examination depends on its type. Below is a list of examples offered and their cost. If there is a medical examination that you require that is not shown on the list, please phone the Thatcham Medical Practice on 01635 867171 to enquire about it’s availability.
Mental Health Clinic
We offer all patients with mental health issues an annual health review, thus providing an opportunity to discuss any mental or physical concerns they may have.
We also use this opportunity to discuss any support you maybe receiving outside of the practice i.e. consultants, CPN’s, day centres etc., and make sure you are happy with the level of care that your are receiving. Referrals or contact numbers can be provided if required.
You then visit the GP for the second part of the review. Within this consultation you can discuss your medication, topics that may have arisen during the first part of your consultation and any other concerns that you may have.
NHS Health Check Clinics
The NHS Health Check programme aims to help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and certain types of dementia. Everyone between the ages of 40 and 74, who has not already been diagnosed with one of these conditions or have certain risk factors, will be invited (once every five years) to have a check to assess their risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and diabetes and will be given support and advice to help them reduce or manage that risk.
The health check programme includes:
- Blood pressure measurement
- Height, weight and waist measurement
- A lifestyle assessment, which will help you to understand how your diet and activity levels could affect your health
- Gathering information about your family medical history of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney problems
- A blood test (performed 2 weeks before your appointment) to check your cholesterol profile, blood sugar and kidney function.
All the information is used by a special program on our computer which calculates an individualised risk profile specific to you. We can then use this information to advise you how to best keep fit and healthy for the future.
The health check will take place in the practice by appointment.
Note: Health Checks DO NOT require a referral from your doctor.
